Chennai International Airport has emerged as the busiest airport in Tamil Nadu, handling the highest number of passengers during the 2025–2026 financial year.

According to recent data released by the Airports Authority of India, Chennai Airport handled nearly 2.30 crore passengers between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026. This marks a 2.7% increase compared to the previous financial year.

Officials stated that the steady rise in domestic and international flight services has significantly contributed to the passenger growth at Chennai Airport. The airport continues to remain one of the major aviation hubs in South India.

Coimbatore International Airport secured the second position in Tamil Nadu with 32.2 lakh passengers, recording a 5.2% increase over the previous year.

Tiruchirappalli International Airport ranked third with 22.2 lakh passengers. Increased connectivity to Southeast Asian countries has been cited as a major reason for the airport’s strong passenger traffic growth.

Meanwhile, Madurai Airport recorded 13.8 lakh passengers to secure the fourth position, followed by Tuticorin Airport with 2.90 lakh passengers and Salem Airport with 1.27 lakh passengers.
