Tamil Nadu Doubles Liquor Licence Fee for Recreation Clubs; Chennai Fee Raised to ₹30 Lakh

The Tamil Nadu Government has doubled the special licence fee for recreation clubs (Manamagizh Mandrams) serving liquor by amending the Tamil Nadu Liquor Licence and Permit Rules, 1981. The revised fee structure has been implemented with effect from April 1, 2026.

According to the government order, the special licence fee for opening a recreation club in Chennai has been increased from ₹15 lakh to ₹30 lakh. The application fee for a liquor licence has been fixed at ₹10,000, while the licence fee has been set at ₹30,000.

For recreation clubs in other municipal corporations, the special licence fee has been fixed at ₹25 lakh. Clubs in municipalities will have to pay ₹15 lakh, while those in other areas will be charged ₹10 lakh. Municipal corporations with a population below 10 lakh will have a licence fee of ₹20 lakh, as per the notification published in the Government Gazette.
