Mobile Phone Locker Facility Made Free at Triplicane Parthasarathy and Mylapore Kapaleeswarar Temples

The mobile phone locker facility at Sri Parthasarathy Swamy Temple in Triplicane and Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore, Chennai, has been made free of cost from October 2026 to reduce inconvenience to devotees.

Previously, devotees were charged ₹5 to deposit their mobile phones in lockers before entering the temples. However, the fee collection process, particularly the difficulty of providing change during peak hours, reportedly resulted in long queues and waiting times.

Free Mobile Phone Lockers to Reduce Waiting Time

Since September, devotees have been advised not to carry mobile phones inside the temples and to deposit them in the lockers provided on the premises. The introduction of the ₹5 fee reportedly increased the time required to deposit phones, especially during periods of heavy footfall.

With the locker facility now available free of cost, temple authorities aim to make the process easier and reduce delays for devotees visiting the temples for darshan.

Devotees Share Their Views

Rajesh Kumar, a Triplicane resident, said the locker facility was initially helpful but later became time-consuming. He noted that the process of depositing mobile phones created delays and that fewer devotees appeared willing to use the facility.

Ramalingam, a Mylapore resident, said mobile phones could be necessary during emergencies to contact family members. He suggested that devotees should avoid unnecessary photography and videography inside temples while retaining access to their phones when essential.

Deepak, another Mylapore resident, welcomed the decision to make the locker facility free. He said the move could help devotees avoid queues at locker counters, reduce crowding and proceed for darshan more quickly.

Temple Authorities Aim to Improve Devotee Convenience

A temple official said the mobile phone locker facility had been made free to reduce inconvenience to devotees.

The decision is expected to make visits easier at two of Chennai`s well-known temples, particularly during weekends, festival days and other periods of heavy crowds. Devotees should continue to follow the temples` rules regarding mobile phone use, photography and videography within the premises.
