Omni Bus Fares in Tamil Nadu Surge Up to 4 Times Ahead of School Reopening

Private omni bus ticket fares in Tamil Nadu have reportedly increased by up to four times ahead of the reopening of schools after the quarterly examination holidays. Passengers travelling from southern districts and Coimbatore to Chennai are facing significantly higher travel costs.

With schools scheduled to reopen on Monday, many families who travelled to their hometowns for the holidays are planning to return to Chennai over the weekend. The increased demand has reportedly led some private bus operators to raise ticket prices sharply.

Chennai Omni Bus Ticket Fares Increase

According to the reported fares, tickets on several major routes have become considerably more expensive than usual.

Madurai - Chennai: Up to ₹4,500–₹5,000

Tirunelveli - Chennai: Up to ₹6,500

Nagercoil - Chennai: Up to ₹6,500

Coimbatore - Chennai: Up to ₹6,000

Trichy - Chennai: Up to ₹5,000

The reported fares may vary depending on the bus operator, travel date, seat availability and service type.

Passengers Face Higher Travel Expenses

Normally, fares on several of these routes are significantly lower, but holiday demand has pushed ticket prices upward. Families travelling together may have to spend several thousand rupees more to return to Chennai.

Passengers are also concerned that fares could increase further on Sunday as demand rises before schools reopen.

Four-Day Holiday May Increase Bus Demand

Another period of increased travel demand is expected during the upcoming long weekend for Ayudha Pooja and Vijayadashami. The four-day holiday period from October 17 to October 20 is expected to encourage more people to travel from Chennai to their hometowns.

With advance bookings increasing, some private omni bus operators have reportedly raised fares by two to four times on selected routes.
