GEM Hospital Launches ‘Operation Infinity’ – India’s First Dual-City Robotic Surgery Network

In a landmark development for India`s healthcare sector, GEM Hospital has launched "Operation Infinity", India`s first interconnected dual-city robotic surgery network, connecting its Chennai and Coimbatore centers. The initiative represents a major advancement in healthcare accessibility, surgical precision, and real-time medical collaboration across cities.

The pioneering network was officially inaugurated by Dr. K.G. Arunraj, Hon`ble Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu. Eminent scientist Mylswamy Annadurai also participated in the launch event.

Through "Operation Infinity," robotic surgery systems at GEM Hospitals in Chennai and Coimbatore are seamlessly integrated, enabling surgeons to collaborate in real time, share diagnostic information, provide expert guidance, and support complex surgical procedures across geographical distances without delay.

Key Features of Operation Infinity

  • Dual-Console Interconnectivity: Enables seamless collaboration between robotic surgery consoles in Chennai and Coimbatore, allowing expert surgeons to participate in procedures across both locations.

  • AI-Powered Surgical Support: Advanced artificial intelligence systems assist in predictive analytics, operational stability, and enhanced surgical precision during complex gastrointestinal and cancer-related procedures.

  • Improved Patient Access: Patients in regional locations can benefit from the expertise of leading specialists without the need to travel long distances.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. C. Palanivelu, Chairman of GEM Hospital, said:

"By harnessing cutting-edge robotics, high-speed connectivity, and AI-driven surgical platforms, GEM Hospitals continues its commitment to transforming healthcare and improving patient outcomes. This network brings the master surgeon`s expertise directly to patients regardless of location, helping decentralize access to world-class healthcare."

Dr. P. Senthilnathan, Director of GEM Hospital Chennai, highlighted the educational benefits of the initiative, stating that the interconnected platform will enhance surgical training opportunities by allowing young surgeons to observe and learn from complex multi-city procedures in real time.

Dr. P. Praveen Raj, CEO and Joint Managing Director of GEM Hospital, described the project as a significant milestone in modern healthcare.

"With Operation Infinity, we are creating one network, two cities, and infinite possibilities in surgical care. This integration allows us to optimize clinical expertise and deliver uncompromised surgical precision for complex procedures," he said.

The announcement was made during GEM TECHNOSURG 2026, an international conference and live demonstrative workshop held in Chennai on June 19 and 20. The event brought together nearly 1,000 surgeons, innovators, researchers, and healthcare professionals from around the world to discuss emerging advancements in robotics, artificial intelligence, and fluorescence-guided surgery.

With the launch of Operation Infinity, GEM Hospital has taken a significant step toward redefining surgical care in India, demonstrating that geographical boundaries no longer need to limit access to advanced medical expertise.
