Tamil Nadu Weather: Moderate Rain Likely in Western Ghats Districts on August 26 and 27

The Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive moderate rainfall on August 26 and 27, according to the Chennai Meteorological Centre.

The weather department said a weak lower-level atmospheric trough is prevailing along the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. Due to this weather system, several parts of the Western Ghats may receive moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

Rain Expected in Several Areas

On Wednesday and Thursday (August 26 and 27), moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in the Western Ghats districts.

Light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may also occur at a few places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

In Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy on Wednesday, August 26.

A few areas of the city may receive light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

100 mm Rain Recorded in Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu recorded significant rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8 AM on Tuesday.

The highest rainfall was recorded at Chinnakallar in Coimbatore district, which received 100 mm of rain.

Fishermen Alert Issued

The weather department has also issued a warning for fishermen.

Gale winds reaching speeds of up to 65 kmph are likely over the Gulf of Mannar, coastal Tamil Nadu and adjoining Comorin Sea areas until Friday, August 28.

Fishermen are advised to exercise caution and follow official weather and sea-condition updates before venturing into the sea.
