Goddess Kamakshi at Mangadu is worshipped in her powerful penance form known as Tapas Kamakshi. This sacred place is where the Goddess performed intense penance standing amidst the Panchagni (five sacred fires) in a forest filled with mango trees.
According to legend, Lord Shiva appeared before her after her penance and later married her in Kanchipuram.
It is strongly believed that unmarried women who pray sincerely at this temple are blessed with early marriage. Devotees visit without hesitation and with full faith to seek divine grace for marriage and well-being.
Spiritual Significance
Once, in Mount Kailash, Goddess Kamakshi playfully closed the eyes of Lord Shiva. This act caused the entire universe to fall into darkness. Realizing her mistake, she sought forgiveness.
