Chennai Metro to Build Flyovers at Perungudi & SRP Tools Junctions on OMR
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited has awarded a ₹113.80 crore contract for constructing flyovers at Perungudi and SRP Tools Junction in Chennai to reduce heavy traffic congestion on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).
The project includes the design and construction of flyovers along with service roads, drainage systems, and electrical works. The construction is expected to be completed within 18 months from the start of the project.
The flyover at Perungudi junction will include a dedicated ramp from MGR Main Road, allowing vehicles to turn right towards Sholinganallur without interruption. Similarly, the flyover at SRP Tools junction will enable vehicles from OMR to turn smoothly towards the Velachery–Taramani Link Road, reducing traffic congestion.
Once completed, the project is expected to significantly ease traffic at two of the busiest intersections on OMR and improve connectivity between Velachery, Taramani, and Perungudi, which are key areas of Chennai’s IT corridor
