Velachery–St Thomas Mount EMU Service to Begin from March 10
In a major boost to suburban rail connectivity, Southern Railway has announced that the Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train service between Velachery and St Thomas Mount will commence operations from March 10.
The much-awaited rail link is expected to significantly cut travel time for commuters in South Chennai while easing traffic congestion on key road corridors. Railway officials stated that the new service will provide a faster and more dependable alternative to road transport for daily passengers.
The Velachery–St Thomas Mount project, which has been under development for nearly 15 years, is one of the most anticipated infrastructure upgrades in the region. With the launch of this service, residents are set to benefit from improved last-mile connectivity and seamless integration with Chennai’s existing suburban rail network.
The new link is expected to enhance overall mobility and offer greater convenience to thousands of daily commuters.
