The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has announced that 861 city buses are operating daily on 140 routes from the Royapuram and Theevu Thidal temporary bus terminals in Chennai, following the closure of the Broadway Bus Stand for redevelopment into a multi-modal integrated transport terminal.
From the Royapuram temporary bus terminal, 335 buses operate on 67 routes, with services commencing daily at 4:30 AM. Key routes include 11, 21, 26, 52, 54, 60, 88, 155A, 188 series, 18 series, 26 series, 51, 52, and 60 series. Several services operate via EVR Periyar Salai and Anna Salai, stopping at major boarding points such as High Court, Paris Corner, and Nurse Quarters.
The Theevu Thidal temporary bus terminal operates 526 buses on 73 routes. Important routes include 1, 4, 6, 13, 15, 20, 33, 35, 38, 42, 44, 56, 57, 60E, 102 series, 109 series, 155, and 156. These services connect key areas such as Beach Railway Station, Mannady, Vepery, Kamarajar Salai, NSC Bose Road, and Esplanade Road, ensuring smooth connectivity for daily commuters.
The Tamil Nadu Government has allocated ₹822.70 crore for the Broadway multi-modal integrated transport terminal project. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will lay the foundation stone, marking a major step toward enhancing Chennai’s urban transport infrastructure.
