The renovated Tholkappiar Poonga in Chennai will be open for public use from January 24, with authorities announcing a significant reduction in walking fees to benefit more residents.
The park has been restored under an ecological conservation project by the Chennai Rivers Restoration Trust (CRRT). To ensure environmental protection, visitor entry is regulated and capped per session.

Morning: 6:30 AM – 8:00 AM
Evening: 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM

Reduced Walking Pass Charges (Effective Feb 1, 2026)
1 month: ₹250
3 months: ₹750
6 months: ₹1,250
12 months: ₹2,500
Walkers will receive colour-coded ID cards, allowing entry three days per week. The total number of walking passes will be increased from 500 to 3,000, improving public access.
