Deadline Extended to Add Child’s Name in Birth Certificate
The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced that the deadline to include a child’s name in a birth certificate has been extended until September 26, 2026, following a Tamil Nadu government order.
Birth registration must be completed within 21 days, and the certificate acts as official proof of identity and citizenship. If the child’s name is not added at the time of registration, it can normally be included within 12 months free of cost, or within 15 years by paying a late fee.
To ease public inconvenience, the government has now opened a special window allowing name inclusion even after the 15-year limit, valid until the new deadline.
Parents or guardians can apply through Corporation Birth and Death Registration Offices or Zonal Offices, submitting documents such as birth certificate copy, school or college records, Aadhaar, voter ID, and ration card.
