The extended deadline for inclusion of names in the Tamil Nadu voter list ends today (February 10), according to the Election Commission of India.

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu began on November 4. In the draft voter list released on December 19, a total of 97.38 lakh voters were removed, reducing the state’s voter count from 6,41,14,587 to 5,43,76,756.

Among the removed names:

- 66,44,881 were marked as migrated

- 26,94,672 were deceased

- 3,98,278 were duplicate entries

Voters whose names were deleted and those who had newly attained 18 years of age were initially given time from December 19 to January 18 to apply for inclusion. During this period, Form 6 was used for new registrations and Form 8 for address changes.

Additionally, notices were issued to 12,43,363 voters who had not submitted required details, asking them to respond with valid documents and declarations.

Following requests from political parties, the Election Commission first extended the deadline to January 30. Later, based on directions from the Supreme Court, a further 10-day extension was granted, taking the final deadline to February 10.

All submitted applications are currently under verification. The final voter list for Tamil Nadu will be published on February 17.
