Broadway Gets New Multi-Modal Transport Hub as CM Stalin Lays Foundation Stone

Posted on: 30/Jan/2026 10:42:48 AM

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a multi-modal integrated transport hub and commercial complex at the former Broadway bus terminus site. The project, estimated at ₹822.70 crore, is aimed at easing congestion and improving passenger movement in one of the city’s busiest corridors.

The complex will feature a nine-storey transport hub and a 10-storey commercial building, together offering 73 bus bays, passenger concourses, retail spaces, office areas, and parking facilities across a total built-up area of 1.36 lakh sq. metres. The project will be developed by the Greater Chennai Corporation, as announced in the 2022–23 State Budget.

Once completed, the facility will serve as a major interchange connecting Kuralagam, High Court Metro station, and MRTS/suburban rail services, helping streamline transport and decongest the Broadway area.

The main structure will include two basements, a ground floor, and eight upper floors, with the bus terminal on the lower levels and office spaces above. Parking and passenger circulation will be provided in the basements. A separate commercial block will house retail outlets and offices, while a third structure will provide Metro access linking the terminal to NSC Bose Road.

The hub will also offer parking for 433 cars and 1,174 two-wheelers, along with modern amenities such as lifts, escalators, fire safety systems, sewage treatment plants, and power infrastructure.

Originally built in the early 1960s, the Broadway bus terminus once handled long-distance buses before services were shifted to Koyambedu in 2002. It has since functioned as a city bus hub, with redevelopment plans pending for several years.
