Tamil Nadu Tourism: TTDC Plans Development of Mamallapuram, 4 Sites
The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) has been directed to develop Mamallapuram and four other major tourist destinations into world-class tourism hubs. As part of this initiative, TTDC will prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) focusing on infrastructure upgrades, visitor amenities, and sustainable tourism practices.
The five destinations identified for development include Mamallapuram, Kanniyakumari, Tiruchendur, Velankanni, and Nagore. These locations attract large numbers of domestic and international tourists due to their historical, cultural, and religious significance.
The proposed development plans aim to enhance basic infrastructure, parking facilities, sanitation, accommodation, landscaping, accessibility, and eco-friendly tourism facilities. The initiative is expected to improve the overall tourist experience, increase footfall, extend visitor stay duration, and boost local employment opportunities.
This move is part of the Tamil Nadu government’s broader strategy to strengthen the state’s tourism sector and position these destinations as integrated, sustainable, and high-quality tourism centers.
