Tamil Nadu earlier had a total of 6.41 crore voters. Following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission of India, the draft voter list released on December 19 showed that 97.37 lakh names were removed, bringing the voter count down to 5.43 crore. Around 66 lakh voters were marked as migrated.

To ensure eligible voters were not left out, the Election Commission conducted special voter enrollment camps and also allowed online applications. Initially, the deadline for voter name inclusion was January 18, which was later extended to January 30 after requests from political parties.

As per the latest update, 15.65 lakh people in Tamil Nadu have applied for inclusion of their names in the electoral rolls after the SIR process. Additionally, 87,579 applications have been received for deletion of names from the voter list.

The Election Commission stated that all applications are being verified before the final voter list is published.
