Tamil Nadu CM C Joseph Vijay Meets President Murmu, Sonia Gandhi Ahead of NITI Aayog Meeting

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay began his three-day visit to New Delhi on Wednesday to attend the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting scheduled for Thursday.

During his visit, Vijay met Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President`s office shared details of the meeting on social media, describing it as a courtesy call.

The Chief Minister also called on C. P. Radhakrishnan at his official residence. The Vice President extended his best wishes to Vijay and expressed hope that Tamil Nadu would continue to progress with peace and prosperity.

Later, the TVK founder met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi at Sonia Gandhi’s residence in New Delhi. This marked Vijay’s first meeting with the Gandhi family after assuming office as Chief Minister. Sources described the interaction as a courtesy meeting, during which political developments and issues concerning Tamil Nadu and the nation were discussed.

The meeting comes shortly after two Congress legislators were inducted into the Vijay-led cabinet, making the Congress party a part of the Tamil Nadu government for the first time in nearly six decades.

As part of his official engagements, Vijay is expected to participate in the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting chaired by Narendra Modi. He is likely to highlight Tamil Nadu`s financial requirements, infrastructure projects, and developmental concerns before the Union government.

Sources also indicate that the Chief Minister may hold a separate meeting with Amit Shah during his stay in the national capital before returning to Chennai on Friday evening.

Earlier, during his first official visit to New Delhi on May 27, Vijay met Prime Minister Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and submitted memoranda seeking support for several key projects related to Tamil Nadu.
