Tamil Nadu Rain Alert: Very Heavy Rain in 6 Districts, Heavy Rain in 25 Districts Today

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast very heavy rainfall in six districts and heavy rain in 25 districts across Tamil Nadu on October 17. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are also likely in some areas. Rain is expected to continue in several districts over the next two days.

Very Heavy Rain Alert for 6 Districts

According to the weather department, atmospheric circulation over Tamil Nadu and adjoining regions is contributing to the current rainfall conditions.

The following six districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places:

- Nilgiris

- Coimbatore

- Tiruvallur

- Kancheepuram

- Villupuram

- Ranipet

Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds may accompany the rainfall in these districts.

Heavy Rain Forecast in 25 Districts

Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Tiruppur, Vellore, Kallakurichi, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Salem, Ramanathapuram, Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal, Cuddalore, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai.

Puducherry and Karaikal may also experience heavy rain. Most other parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to receive moderate rainfall.

Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast for October 18 and 19

On October 18, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the Nilgiris district. Heavy rain is also forecast for Coimbatore, Erode, Namakkal, Ranipet, Tiruvallur and Tirupattur districts.

Moderate rainfall is expected in other parts of the state. Rainfall is also likely to continue in several areas on October 19.

Chennai and its suburban areas are likely to experience cloudy skies on October 17. Some areas may receive moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, with occasional spells of heavy rainfall.
