Chennai Metro Records Over 1.04 Crore Passenger Trips in August 2026

CHENNAI: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) recorded more than 1.04 crore passenger trips in August 2026, reflecting continued strong demand for metro services across the city.

According to CMRL, a total of 1,04,04,098 passengers travelled on Chennai Metro trains between August 1 and August 31, 2026.

The highest single-day passenger footfall during the month was recorded on August 14, when 4,01,607 passengers used the Metro service.

Over 52 Lakh Passengers Used Singara Chennai Card

The Singara Chennai Card (National Common Mobility Card) remained a popular ticketing option, with 52,84,196 passengers using the card during August.

Passengers also used various QR-based and digital ticketing options during the month:

• Static QR – 2,28,732
• Paytm – 3,09,569
• PhonePe – 2,73,438
• Chennai One App – 3,10,474

20% Discount on Digital Ticketing

CMRL offers a 20% discount on ticketing services through the Singara Chennai Card and digital QR ticketing platforms, including WhatsApp, Paytm, PhonePe and the Digital Store Value Pass available through the CMRL Mobile App.

The discount is not applicable to Single Journey Paper QR tickets purchased at ticket counters.
