Chennai Metro Phase II: 'Nilagiri' TBM Reaches Moolakadai Metro Station

The `Nilagiri` Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) has successfully reached Moolakadai Metro Station after completing an 819-metre tunnel from Madhavaram Highway Metro Station, marking another important milestone in the Chennai Metro Phase II project.

The breakthrough is part of the underground construction work on the Madhavaram Milk Colony–Kellys (Purasawalkam) metro corridor. The successful completion of this section represents significant progress in Chennai Metro`s expanding underground rail network.

With the completion of this tunnelling work, 24 Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) have now successfully completed their assigned tunnelling operations under the Chennai Metro Rail Phase II project.

The Chennai Metro Phase II project is one of India`s largest urban transport initiatives and is expected to significantly improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and provide faster, sustainable public transportation for Chennai`s growing population.
