The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) service between Mettupalayam and Coonoor has been cancelled until November 10, 2026, following landslides and track damage caused by heavy rainfall in the Nilgiris. The Southern Railway administration has extended the suspension to ensure passenger safety while restoration work continues along the affected railway route.

Landslides Damage Nilgiri Mountain Railway Tracks

Heavy rainfall across the Nilgiris has triggered landslides at several locations along the Mettupalayam–Coonoor railway route. Soil, rocks and massive boulders have fallen from the hills onto the railway tracks, disrupting train operations.

The Hillgrove–Coonoor section has been particularly affected, with debris and large boulders obstructing the railway line.

As a result, railway authorities have temporarily suspended services to prevent any risk to passengers.
