Nipah Virus Alert: Surveillance Intensified in Nilgiris Border Areas After Kerala Case

The Nilgiris district has been placed on high alert following the confirmation of a Nipah virus case in neighbouring Kerala. As a precautionary measure, Tamil Nadu health authorities have intensified surveillance at interstate check posts and border villages to prevent the spread of the infection. Special monitoring teams have been deployed, and residents are being advised to follow health guidelines issued by the district administration.

Officials have urged the public to be alert to Nipah virus symptoms, including high fever, severe headache, muscle pain, vomiting, breathing difficulties, dizziness, and disorientation. People are also advised to avoid consuming fruits that may have been bitten by bats. Meanwhile, healthcare facilities in nearby districts have strengthened preparedness measures to handle any suspected cases. Authorities have emphasized the importance of seeking immediate medical attention and avoiding self-medication if symptoms develop.
