Ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India has ordered the closure of TASMAC liquor shops for four days across the state.

According to official instructions, liquor outlets will remain closed on April 21, 22, and 23, 2026, in view of the polling scheduled on April 23. Additionally, TASMAC shops will also remain shut on May 4, 2026, the day of vote counting.

The order was issued by the Prohibition and Excise Department, citing Election Commission guidelines to ensure free and fair polling. As per the directive, all TASMAC outlets, including bars attached to liquor shops and licensed bars, must remain closed from 10:00 AM on April 21 until midnight of April 23, and again on May 4.

Authorities have also warned against illegal stocking or hoarding of liquor during this period. Strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules.

Instructions have been sent to TASMAC officials and district collectors to ensure full compliance across Tamil Nadu.

These measures are part of standard election protocols aimed at maintaining law and order and preventing any misuse of alcohol during the election process.
