Egg Price Drop in Namakkal Hits Farmers Hard

Namakkal, one of India’s largest poultry hubs, has seen egg prices fall by 40 paise over the past three days, raising concerns among farmers. The price per egg has dropped from 445 paise to 405 paise due to weak demand.

Over 7 crore eggs are produced daily in the region, but a slowdown in demand - linked to global tensions - has led to unsold stock. Following a review meeting, the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) decided to reduce prices further.

Farmers say they are now facing losses of nearly ₹1 per egg, leading to an estimated daily loss of around ₹7 crore. They also warn that prices may fall further if demand does not improve.

Meanwhile, retail egg prices remain at ₹85 per tray, and chicken prices in Palladam are steady at ₹129 per kg.
