Toll charges at 28 toll plazas across Tamil Nadu are set to increase from April 1, as part of the annual revision of toll rates on National Highways.

According to reports, light vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans may see an increase of ₹10 to ₹40 over the existing toll rates. Meanwhile, heavy vehicles including lorries and buses could face a higher hike ranging between ₹50 and ₹200. The monthly pass fee for regular users is expected to be fixed between ₹300 and ₹350.

The toll plazas where the revised charges will come into effect include Tindivanam, Athur, Bogalur, Boothakudi (Pudukkottai), Chennasamudram, Chittampatti, Ettur, Kaniyur, Kappalur, Keelkupam, Krishnagiri, Lembalakudi, Lakshmanapatti, Mathur, Nellur, Nanguneri, Sriperumbudur, Pallikonda, Paranur, Pattarai Perumbudur, Vagaikulam (Pudukkottai), S.V. Puram, Salaipudur, Shenbagampettai, Surapattu, Thiruppachethi, Vanagaram, Viralimalai, and Vaniyambadi.

The toll hike is expected to increase travel expenses for private motorists as well as bus and freight vehicle operators who regularly use National Highways. Experts say the higher toll charges for goods vehicles could also increase transportation costs, which may eventually affect the prices of essential goods for the public.

With concerns already being raised about potential petrol and diesel shortages, the toll fee hike is likely to add further financial pressure on motorists and transport operators across the state.
