Tamil Nadu Government School Students Begin Skill Plus Assessment Tests

The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has started assessment tests for students studying in Classes 2 to 9 in government schools under the Skill Plus programme. The initiative aims to evaluate students` basic language and mathematics skills and identify those who need additional learning support.

The three-day assessment began on October 21 and will continue until October 23, 2026. The tests are designed to assess students` foundational learning abilities and help improve their academic performance.

Tamil, English and Mathematics Tests

The assessment tests are being conducted according to the following schedule:

October 21: Tamil

October 22: English

October 23: Mathematics

Each test contains 10 questions, and students are given 40 minutes to complete it.

Basic Learning Skills to Be Assessed

The tests will evaluate students` ability to recognise Tamil and English letters, read simple words, write basic words and numbers, and perform fundamental mathematical operations.

Mathematics assessments will cover multiplication tables, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Participation Guidelines for Students

All students studying in Classes 2 to 5 are required to participate in the assessment. For Classes 6 to 9, schools have been instructed to ensure participation from at least 40% of students in each class.

Special Training for Students Who Need Support

Based on the assessment results, students who require additional academic support will be identified. Special training will then be provided to help them strengthen their foundational language and mathematics skills under the Skill Plus programme.

The initiative is expected to help the School Education Department identify learning gaps and provide targeted support to improve educational outcomes in Tamil Nadu government schools.
