Moderate Rain Likely in Several Tamil Nadu Districts for Two Days

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rain in parts of Coimbatore, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Nilgiris and Kanniyakumari districts on October 7, 2026.

According to the weather forecast, the hilly areas of Coimbatore, coastal areas of Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli, and some parts of Nilgiris and Kanniyakumari may receive heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph.

The highest rainfall recorded was 116.0 mm at Pillur Dam, Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district.

A trough extending from the Gulf of Mannar to northern interior Karnataka through interior Tamil Nadu and southern interior Karnataka is prevailing at around 0.9 km altitude.

Weather Forecast for the Coming Days

On October 8, heavy rain is likely in the hilly areas of Coimbatore and some parts of the Nilgiris. Several other districts may receive moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds.

On October 9, heavy rain is expected in the hilly areas of Coimbatore and parts of Nilgiris, Theni and Kanniyakumari. Moderate rain is likely in several other districts.

On October 10, heavy rain may occur in the hilly areas of Coimbatore and parts of Nilgiris and Theni. Moderate rain is expected in districts including Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari.

On October 11, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds may occur in several southern and western districts. Light rain is expected in other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

On October 12 and 13, light to moderate rain is likely in parts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari.

Chennai Weather Forecast

For Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy on October 7 and 8. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms may occur in some areas during the evening or night.

The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 34–35°C, while the minimum temperature may be around 26–27°C.
