Birth of Lord Ganesha

According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvati created Ganesha from sandalwood paste or turmeric and gave him life. She asked him to guard her while she was bathing.

When Lord Shiva returned home, Ganesha stopped him because he did not know him. This led to a confrontation, during which Shiva beheaded Ganesha. Parvati was deeply saddened and asked Shiva to bring her son back to life.

Shiva`s followers brought the head of an elephant, which Shiva placed on Ganesha`s body. Ganesha was then brought back to life and blessed as the remover of obstacles and the lord of new beginnings. He is also traditionally worshipped first during Hindu rituals.

Ganesha`s large belly is often seen as a symbol of accepting both the good and difficult experiences of life. It reminds devotees to face life`s ups and downs with patience and balance.

The Mouse as His Vehicle

The mouse, known as Mushika, represents desires and the ego. Ganesha riding a small mouse is seen as a reminder that desires and ego should be controlled. It also represents humility and wisdom, showing that true greatness is not based on appearance.
