Amit Shah to Arrive in Chennai on August 19 for Southern Chief Ministers’ Meeting

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Chennai on Wednesday evening, August 19, to attend a conference of the chief ministers of southern states and Puducherry at Kovalam along the East Coast Road (ECR) in Chengalpattu district on Thursday.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is also expected to participate in the meeting, according to sources.

Amit Shah’s Chennai Visit Schedule

Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive at the old Chennai airport at 7.40 pm on Wednesday. From the airport, he will travel by road to a private star hotel in Kovalam on the East Coast Road, where he will stay overnight.

On Thursday, the Union Home Minister will preside over the conference involving the chief ministers of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Puducherry.

The meeting is expected to bring together the leaders of the southern states and Puducherry to discuss issues concerning the region and matters requiring coordination between the states and the Union Government.

Following the meeting, Amit Shah is scheduled to depart for New Delhi at 3.45 pm on Thursday.

Security Arrangements at Chennai Airport

In view of the Union Home Minister`s visit, Chennai airport authorities held a meeting at the old airport on Tuesday afternoon to review security arrangements.

Senior airport officials, security personnel, VIP security officials, Chennai Police personnel and officers from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) participated in the meeting.

Additional security arrangements will be implemented at the old Chennai airport on both Wednesday and Thursday in connection with Amit Shah`s visit.
