Tamil Nadu Rain Alert: Heavy Rain Likely in 21 Districts Today

Tamil Nadu is likely to receive heavy rain in 21 districts today (September 21), with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds expected at isolated places, according to the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre.

The districts likely to receive heavy rain include The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Dindigul, Pudukkottai, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Sivaganga, Thanjavur, Madurai, Cuddalore, Tirupattur, Vellore and Tiruchirappalli.

Puducherry and Karaikal are also likely to receive heavy rain with thunderstorms and strong winds. Other parts of Tamil Nadu may experience light to moderate rainfall at a few places.

Chennai Rain Forecast

Chennai, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts may receive light to moderate rain at isolated places on September 23 and 24. Moderate rain is also expected in some Western Ghats districts during this period.

New Low-Pressure Area Over Bay of Bengal

A low-pressure area has formed over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining regions. It is expected to move northwestward and gradually strengthen into a depression over the Eastcentral Bay of Bengal on September 21, followed by further intensification into a deep depression on September 22, according to the weather department.

Meanwhile, Bettamugilalam in Krishnagiri district recorded 15 cm of rainfall, the highest in Tamil Nadu during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Sunday.

Residents in the affected districts are advised to stay updated with official weather alerts and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
