Chennai Egmore railway station has taken a major step toward modernization with the opening of a new multi-level parking facility as part of its ongoing ₹842 crore redevelopment project. The newly launched parking structure on the Gandhi-Irwin Road side is expected to improve traffic management and commuter convenience at one of Chennai’s busiest railway stations.

The facility has been designed to support the growing number of passengers using Egmore station every day. With dedicated parking spaces for cars and two-wheelers, the project aims to reduce roadside congestion and provide a smoother travel experience for visitors and daily commuters.

The multi-level parking complex can accommodate more than 180 cars and over 100 two-wheelers across multiple floors. The facility also includes modern infrastructure such as EV charging stations, CCTV surveillance, automated parking systems, public announcement systems, and fire safety equipment.

Passengers can also access several additional amenities including:

- Luggage lockers
- Pay-and-use toilets
- Driver rest rooms
- Refreshment kiosks
- Vehicle cleaning services

To ensure safety and accessibility, the facility includes lifts for persons with disabilities, anti-skid parking surfaces, guard rails, and fire escape staircases.

The parking facility has been opened while redevelopment work continues across Chennai Egmore railway station. Railway authorities are currently developing upgraded passenger circulation areas, modern terminal infrastructure, and improved station access systems to handle future passenger demand more efficiently.

Officials also confirmed that another multi-level parking structure is under construction on the Poonamallee High Road side of the station. Once the full redevelopment project is completed, Chennai Egmore station is expected to become one of the most modern railway hubs in South India.

The latest infrastructure upgrade is expected to significantly improve passenger convenience, urban mobility, and traffic flow in central Chennai.
