Tamil Nadu Weather: Heavy Rain Alert for Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Theni

Several parts of Tamil Nadu received rainfall on Wednesday, including Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari. The highest rainfall of 72 cm was recorded in the Nilgiris.

Meanwhile, maximum temperatures in some parts of Tamil Nadu were 2 to 3 degrees Celsius higher than usual.

According to the weather forecast issued by the Chennai Meteorological Centre, an atmospheric circulation is prevailing over the southern coastal areas of Kerala at an altitude of around 0.9 km. A trough extends from this circulation towards south interior Karnataka at the same altitude.

On October 8, 2026, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph is likely at isolated places in the hill areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Theni.

Moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds may occur at isolated places in Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Karur, Namakkal, Tiruppur, Erode and Salem, as well as Karaikal.

Light rain with thunderstorms and lightning is likely at isolated places in other parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
