Velachery Main Road Sinkhole Near Nehru Nagar Causes Traffic Delays

A two-foot-wide sinkhole suddenly appeared on Velachery Main Road near Nehru Nagar on Sunday morning following a leak in an underground drinking water pipeline, disrupting traffic along the busy Guindy–Velachery route.

The affected stretch connects Guindy to Velachery via Five Furlong Road. Following the road cave-in, vehicles were restricted to a single lane, resulting in traffic slowdowns.

Drinking Water Pipeline Leak Causes Road Cave-In

Officials confirmed that the sinkhole was caused by a breach in the underground drinking water pipeline running beneath Velachery Main Road.

After receiving information about the incident, officials from the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) and the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) rushed to the location and began repair work.

Repair Work and Water Supply Restoration

Normal drinking water supply to the affected area is expected to resume on Monday.

Motorists travelling along Velachery Main Road near Nehru Nagar are advised to proceed cautiously and expect possible traffic delays until repair work is completed.
