TN Govt Issues New Order for Faster Death Certificate Delivery

The Tamil Nadu government has issued a new order to improve the accuracy and speedy issuance of death certificates in hospitals across the state. As per the announcement, special audit committees will be formed at hospital, district, and state levels under the MCCD Audit System guidelines.

Reports revealed that nearly 25% to 40% of death certificates in Tamil Nadu contain errors, including incomplete details and incorrect causes of death. To address this issue, the government has instructed hospitals to ensure accurate death certificates are issued within 24 hours.

Audit committees will function in government hospitals, primary health centres, medical colleges, private hospitals, and ESI hospitals across Tamil Nadu. Monthly review meetings will also be conducted to monitor the process.
