WhatsApp to Introduce Message Scheduling Feature for Android Users

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new message scheduling feature that will allow users to send messages automatically at a chosen date and time. The feature is currently being tested with select Android beta users and may reach more users in the coming weeks.

The update is expected to let users schedule messages without having to send them immediately. It could be useful for birthday wishes, reminders, work-related messages and group announcements.

How to Schedule WhatsApp Messages

According to information published by WABetaInfo, the feature is being rolled out to some users of WhatsApp Android beta version 2.26.40.7.

Once available, users are expected to be able to schedule a message by typing it in a chat and pressing and holding the send button. WhatsApp may then display an option to select the date and time for delivery.

The feature is reportedly expected to support text messages, links, photos and videos. Users may also be able to edit an image or add a caption before scheduling it. However, scheduling may be limited to one photo or video at a time.

Reports suggest that messages could be scheduled from as early as 10 minutes ahead to a maximum of two weeks in advance.

Scheduled Messages May Work Even When the Phone Is Offline

One of the key aspects of the reported feature is that WhatsApp may automatically deliver scheduled messages at the selected time, even if the app is closed or the sender`s smartphone is offline.

The feature is also expected to work in individual and group chats. In group conversations, only members who are part of the group when the scheduled message is sent may receive it.

Users May Be Able to Review or Delete Scheduled Messages

WhatsApp may introduce a dedicated section within the chat information screen, allowing users to view their scheduled messages before delivery.

Users are expected to have the option to delete a scheduled message before it is sent. If a message is deleted in advance, the recipient will reportedly not receive a notification about its cancellation.

The feature is also expected to support end-to-end encryption, although its final functionality will depend on WhatsApp`s official implementation.

When Will the Feature Be Available?

The message scheduling feature is reportedly being tested among select Android beta users through the Google Play Store. WhatsApp has not confirmed a general release date.

If the rollout proceeds as expected, more users may gain access in the coming weeks. Until then, the feature remains a reported update rather than a widely available WhatsApp function.
