What Are WhatsApp Usernames and How Can You Reserve One?

WhatsApp is introducing a username feature that allows users to connect without sharing their phone numbers, improving privacy when meeting new people or joining group chats.

With this update, users will be able to create a unique username (such as @name123) that others can use to contact them. An optional username key may also be added for extra privacy control.

Users can currently reserve their usernames before the full feature rollout. This can be done through Settings > Account > Username on the latest version of WhatsApp. If a chosen username is unavailable, alternative suggestions will be provided.

The feature is being rolled out gradually and is not yet available in all regions or on WhatsApp Web and Desktop.

Usernames must be 3-35 characters long, can include letters, numbers, underscores, and periods, and must be unique.

Overall, the update is designed to make WhatsApp communication more private and flexible while reducing the need to share phone numbers.
