Google Pay Biometric Authentication: How to Disable Fingerprint or Face Unlock and Use UPI PIN Again

Google Pay has introduced a biometric authentication option that allows users to authorise payments using their fingerprint or face recognition instead of entering their six-digit UPI PIN for eligible transactions.

This feature may make digital payments quicker and more convenient. However, some users may prefer entering their UPI PIN rather than using biometric authentication. Those who do not wish to use this feature can disable it through the Google Pay app settings.

How to Disable Biometric Authentication in Google Pay?

Users who want to switch back to the regular UPI PIN method can follow these steps:

1. Open the Google Pay app on your smartphone.

2. Tap your profile picture or the first letter of your name on the home screen.

3. Select the Bank Account option.

4. Choose the bank account linked to Google Pay.

5. Look for the Manage Biometrics option, marked as a new feature.

6. Open the option and turn off biometric authentication, such as fingerprint or face recognition, if enabled.

7. Tap Yes to confirm the change.

Once the setting is disabled, users can continue authorising eligible payments using their UPI PIN as usual.

Can You Continue Using Google Pay Without Biometrics?

Yes. Biometric authentication is an optional payment authorisation method for eligible transactions. Users who prefer not to use fingerprint or face recognition can switch back to the UPI PIN method through the app settings.

Users should also ensure that their phone`s screen lock and Google Pay security settings remain enabled to protect their digital payments.
