Tamil Nadu Elections 2026: EVM and VVPAT Distribution Begins Across Districts
Preparations for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026 have intensified, with the distribution of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and VVPAT devices beginning across districts.
Under the supervision of the Election Commission of India, EVMs and VVPAT machines were first securely stored after completing initial checks. A computer-based randomization process was conducted on March 23 in the presence of recognized political party representatives and district election officials to allocate machines constituency-wise.
Following this, the process of transporting the machines to respective constituency strong rooms and election offices officially began yesterday across Tamil Nadu.
For this election, around 90,000 control units and ballot units each, along with approximately 97,500 VVPAT machines, are being deployed. Additionally, about 20% extra machines have been kept as reserve to handle technical issues or replacements if required.
In Chennai, the distribution process was carried out under the leadership of District Election Officer J. Kumaragurubaran. Similar operations are being conducted in all districts under the supervision of respective election authorities.
Meanwhile, training sessions for polling booth officials are scheduled to be conducted today at election offices across the state. These sessions aim to ensure smooth handling of EVMs and efficient conduct of polling.
The large-scale logistical exercise highlights the extensive preparations underway to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election process across Tamil Nadu.
