About the Award-Winning Book

“Tamil Sirukathaigalin Thadangal” is a detailed study of the early evolution of Tamil short stories, covering nearly 50 years of literary history starting from 1913.

The book analyses the works of 57 major Tamil writers and classifies Tamil short story literature into six key streams:

- Manikodi–Ezhuthu movement

- Popular magazine stories

- Leftist literature

- Dravidian movement writings

- Dalit literature

- Women writers

It not only offers literary criticism but also explores the social, political, and economic context in which these stories were created.

Significance of the Award

The recognition from the Sahitya Akademi highlights the importance of Tamil short story literature and its historical development. The award further strengthens S. Tamilselvan’s contribution to Tamil literary research and criticism.
