The Poongavanathamman Temple, located in Putlur–Ramapuram village in Thiruvallur district, is a sacred shrine dedicated to Goddess Angalaparameswari Amman, worshipped here as Poongavanathamman. The temple is situated about 38 km from Chennai and is easily accessible for devotees from nearby towns. The shrine also houses Lord Vinayaka and Thandavarayan, attracting devotees seeking divine protection and blessings.
The temple is believed to have a history of 500 to 1000 years, and the neem tree (Thala Virutcham) in the temple is considered highly sacred. According to legend, the Goddess manifested in the form of an anthill, and later revealed her divine presence to villagers through a miraculous event during farming. Following this divine revelation, the villagers built the temple, and the Goddess came to be known as Poongavanathamman, symbolizing prosperity and protection.
