Senior IPS officer A. Amalraj officially assumed charge as the Commissioner of Police for Chennai on Friday morning.

Following the formation of the new government in Tamil Nadu, several IAS and IPS officers have been transferred and appointed to key administrative positions across the state. As part of this major reshuffle, Amalraj was appointed as the new Chennai Police Commissioner through a government order issued on Thursday.

Before this appointment, Amalraj had served in important police positions and was reportedly placed on the waiting list after being transferred from his previous role earlier this year.

After arriving at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s Office in Vepery, Amalraj formally took charge and received an official guard of honour from police personnel.

Meanwhile, former Chennai Police Commissioner Abhin Dinesh Modak has been transferred as Additional Director General of Police in the CBCID department.

The appointment is considered significant amid ongoing administrative changes in Tamil Nadu, with expectations of stronger law enforcement and public safety measures in Chennai city.
