University of Colorado Denver to Set Up Campus in Hyderabad

The University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) from India`s University Grants Commission (UGC) to establish a degree-granting campus in Hyderabad. The university says it is the first American public university to receive such authorization and the first foreign university approved to establish a campus in Telangana.

The Hyderabad campus is expected to welcome its first batch of students in August 2027, subject to the completion of regulatory processes. It plans to offer programmes in high-demand areas including business, computing, engineering and analytics, with a focus on practical learning and career readiness.

CU Denver is partnering with global education company Emeritus to support the campus`s establishment and operations in India. The initiative aligns with the objectives of India`s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, particularly its focus on multidisciplinary education, internationalisation and employability.

CU Denver Chancellor Kenneth T. Christensen said the initiative builds on the university`s long-standing connection with Indian students and will expand access to globally connected, career-focused education.

Established in 1973, CU Denver serves around 14,000 students and has more than 100,000 alumni across over 100 countries. The university is classified as an R1 research institution for very high research activity.

Additional programmes are expected to be proposed to the UGC for approval from the second year onward.
