R.V. Arlekar Takes Charge as Full-Time Tamil Nadu Governor

R.V. Arlekar officially assumed office as the full-time Governor of Tamil Nadu at Lok Bhavan in Chennai on October 15, 2026.

R.V. Arlekar took charge as the full-time Governor of Tamil Nadu at Lok Bhavan in Chennai on Thursday, October 15.

Former Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi was transferred to West Bengal in March. Following his transfer, R.V. Arlekar, who was serving as the Governor of Kerala, was given additional responsibility for Tamil Nadu.

Subsequently, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Arlekar as the full-time Governor of Tamil Nadu.

Several political leaders congratulated Arlekar on his appointment.

During the swearing-in-related formalities, Governor Arlekar was accompanied by his Secretary, Sajjan Singh R. Chavan, and other officials. He was also accorded a ceremonial guard of honour by the police.

Previous Governor’s Tenure and Legislative Approvals

During R.N. Ravi’s tenure as Governor of Tamil Nadu, differences between him and the then ruling DMK government led to delays in obtaining approval for several Bills.

After the TVK government assumed office on May 10, 2026, a more cordial relationship reportedly developed between Governor R.V. Arlekar and Chief Minister Vijay. Recently, approval was granted to more than 20 Bills, marking a notable development in the relationship between the state government and the Governor’s office.
