Vijayakanth’s 74th Birth Anniversary

Today, August 25, marks the 74th birth anniversary of late DMDK founder and former Leader of the Opposition, ‘Captain’ Vijayakanth.

The DMDK is observing the occasion as ‘Poverty Eradication Day’, with welfare programmes across Tamil Nadu. A grand event is being held in Virudhachalam, featuring free tailoring and computer training centres, along with the distribution of sewing machines, ironing boxes and educational scholarships.

DMDK General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth has also distributed welfare assistance, including financial aid and midday meals for a school for hearing-impaired students in Chennai. An eye screening camp is being conducted at the DMDK headquarters in Koyambedu.

Born on August 25, 1952, Vijayakanth rose to prominence as a Tamil film actor before founding the DMDK in 2005. He later served as Tamil Nadu’s Leader of the Opposition.

His birth anniversary continues to be commemorated through welfare activities benefiting the underprivileged.
