Madras Quiz for Schools attracts 88 teams; Madras Quiz (Open) brings together 78 teams

As Chennai celebrated its 387th anniversary during Madras Week, the Madras Quiz for Schools and Madras Quiz (Open) 2026, presented by the Murugappa Group and conducted by renowned quizmaster Dr Sumanth C Raman, were held today at Victoria Public Hall. The twin quizzes attracted 166 teams from across the city, transforming the iconic venue into a vibrant celebration of Chennai`s history, heritage, culture, and spirit.

Eighty-Eight school teams from across Chennai participated in the Madras Quiz for Schools. In a closely contested final, K L Dheeraj and Ramesh Krishna S from PSBB, K.K. Nagar emerged winners of the Madras Quiz for Schools 2026, receiving gift vouchers worth ₹6,000. Dev Naveen and Aakush A Dhanujnath from B V Bhavan`s Rajaji Vidyashram, Kilpauk secured the first runners-up position and won gift vouchers worth ₹4,000, while S Lokeshwar and Sanjeev S from The Grove School, Teynampet were declared second runners-up, taking home gift vouchers worth ₹3,000

The top two teams, representing PSBB, K.K. Nagar and B V Bhavan`s Rajaji Vidyashram, Kilpauk, also earned the opportunity to compete in the Madras Quiz (Open) later that afternoon.  They were presented with trophies sponsored by Chola MS, along with gift vouchers and Parry hampers. 

Special prizes were awarded for the Best Team Name: Puzhal to Parrys - A Dilip and Tannu Sheoran from Sri Venkateswara Public School, Puzhal; Most Energetic Team to Athula Krishna and Kamaleshraja R from DAV, Gill Nagar and Golden Guess Accolade to S Manan Bafna from Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam, Rajah Annamalaipuram. Overall, participants competed for prizes and gift vouchers worth ₹20,000

Madras Quiz (Open)

The afternoon witnessed an engaging contest, with Jayakanthan R and Kartik Ramadas emerging winners of the Madras Quiz (Open) 2026. They lifted the prestigious rolling trophy and received gift vouchers worth ₹15,000. K Palani and A Santhanan secured the first runners-up position and won gift vouchers worth ₹10,000, while Srinivasa Ramanujam and Deepa Alexander finished as second runners-up, taking home gift vouchers worth ₹8,000

Special prizes were awarded for Best Women’s Team: Kaapi Strong Kelvi Wrong – Hema and Janani; Best Senior Citizens’ Team: Step away from Dementia - K Suresh and K Murali and Best Team Name: Adengappa! Idhu Murugappa - Richu Mariam Roby and Fernando Ousje S. Participants competed for prizes and gift vouchers worth ₹50,000

The Chief Guest for the Madras Quiz event, Mr Ashiq JAH, COO, EID Parry India Ltd said, "The Madras Quiz has become a cherished part of Madras Week celebrations, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds through a shared love for Chennai and its many stories. This year’s theme, Manasellaam Madras, Vibe-ellaam Chennai, came alive through lively quizzing, bringing together 166 teams, quiz enthusiasts and audiences of all ages. From the Schools Quiz in the morning to the Open Quiz in the afternoon, the event celebrated Chennai through its people, stories, history and distinctive character.
