PM Modi to Virtually Inaugurate Redeveloped Vellore Cantonment Railway Station on October 11

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the redeveloped Vellore Cantonment railway station on October 11, 2026, as part of efforts to modernise railway infrastructure under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

The station has been redeveloped at an estimated cost of ₹8 crore to ₹8.6 crore, with improvements aimed at enhancing passenger convenience, accessibility and overall facilities. The upgrades include a new station entrance, solar power facilities, purified drinking water, lifts and a foot overbridge (FOB). Accessibility features have also been incorporated to make the station more convenient for passengers with disabilities.

Located near the historic Vellore Fort, the station lies on the Villupuram-Tirupati railway route and serves passengers travelling between important destinations, including the pilgrimage centres of Tiruvannamalai and Tirupati.

The inauguration is part of a broader initiative to upgrade railway stations across Southern Railway, including Palani, Namakkal, Paramakkudi and Ambasamudram, alongside other events scheduled in Chennai.
