Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast: Northeast Monsoon May Begin on October 15

Tamil Nadu may see a gradual reduction in temperatures and an increase in rainfall as the Northeast Monsoon is expected to begin around October 15, according to independent weather analyst Delta Weatherman Hemachandran. A developing low-pressure area over the southern Bay of Bengal could also influence weather conditions along the Tamil Nadu coast.

Super El Niño and Its Impact on Weather

The Pacific Ocean plays an important role in influencing global weather patterns. Changes in its sea-surface temperatures can affect rainfall, temperatures and atmospheric conditions across different regions.

El Nino is a climate phenomenon associated with warmer-than-average sea-surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean. Its effects vary across regions and seasons, influencing weather patterns in different ways.

According to Hemachandran, the current phase of unusually warm Pacific Ocean conditions may be approaching its end. He expects this to coincide with a gradual decline in the prolonged heat experienced in Tamil Nadu.

Northeast Monsoon Expected Around October 15

The Northeast Monsoon is a major source of rainfall for Tamil Nadu. The India Meteorological Department had indicated a possible onset window between October 15 and 21.

Hemachandran has suggested that the monsoon could begin over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala around October 15. He also expects the state to receive relatively consistent rainfall for about a week following its onset.

These dates are forecasts, and the actual onset and distribution of rainfall will depend on evolving atmospheric conditions.

Low-Pressure Area May Bring Rain

Hemachandran has also indicated the possibility of a low-pressure area forming over the southern Bay of Bengal. If it develops and moves towards the Sri Lankan and Tamil Nadu coasts, it could support the onset of the Northeast Monsoon.

Such a weather system may bring rainfall to parts of Tamil Nadu and help ease daytime heat. However, the timing, intensity and location of rainfall will depend on the system`s development and movement.

Residents should follow updates from the India Meteorological Department for the latest district-wise rainfall forecasts and weather warnings.
