The Tamil Nadu government will sell special packs containing 10 varieties of vegetables for ₹100 through cooperative outlets across the State from November 5 to 7, offering festive-season relief to consumers.
The initiative, named the ‘Vetri Special Vegetable Pack’, will be implemented through 218 selected cooperative wholesale and retail stores, along with four mobile vegetable outlets in Chennai. The State Cooperation Department issued operational guidelines for the three-day sale on November 3.
What’s Inside the ₹100 Vegetable Pack?
Each pack will contain:
Onions – 500 grams
Tomatoes – 500 grams
Brinjal – 250 grams
Potatoes – 250 grams
Carrots – 200 grams
Beans – 200 grams
Green chillies – 100 grams
Lemons – 100 grams
Ginger – 50 grams
Coconut – one, weighing 400–450 grams
The department has clarified that the vegetables will be sold only as a complete pack and cannot be purchased separately. Each consumer is allowed to buy one pack.
Daily Stock and Quality Measures
Participating outlets must procure fresh vegetables daily according to sales requirements and maintain records of purchases and sales. The guidelines also cover packing, transportation, storage and distribution to help ensure quality and availability.
The difference between procurement costs and the fixed selling price of ₹100, along with the prescribed packaging costs, will be reimbursed to participating cooperative institutions through the Cooperative Education Fund, subject to the specified conditions.
The three-day initiative is intended to make essential vegetables available at a fixed price during the festive period.
