Chennai’s Sivam Ortho Hospital Installs AI-Based MISSO Robotic System for Knee Replacement

Sivam Ortho Hospital has installed Chennai’s first AI-based MISSO robotic system for knee replacement surgeries, marking a significant development in advanced orthopaedic care.

Manufactured by Indian medical technology company Meril, the MISSO platform uses artificial intelligence to support pre-surgical planning, real-time surgical guidance and precise implant positioning. The system has reportedly been installed at more than 150 locations across India.

The installation was carried out under the leadership of Dr. V. Sivakumar, Founder and Director of Sivam Ortho Hospital, as part of the hospital’s efforts to adopt advanced surgical technologies.

According to Dr. Sivakumar, the technology supports personalised surgical planning and helps surgeons optimise implant alignment, joint balance and positioning based on each patient’s anatomy.

Robotic-assisted knee replacement aims to improve surgical precision and support recovery. Potential benefits may include reduced soft-tissue disruption, less postoperative pain and improved joint function, although individual outcomes vary depending on the patient and procedure.

The installation also highlights the growing adoption of India-developed medical technology in orthopaedic surgery and strengthens Chennai’s advanced joint replacement capabilities.
