Rtn. S. Sundarraj: Building a Business, Serving the Community

On his birthday, LiveChennai celebrates Rtn. S. Sundarraj, the Thirukalukundram-based civil engineer, entrepreneur and Rotarian whose journey of professional achievement and community service is entering a new chapter.

A professional career can create opportunities not only to build a business but also to contribute to the wider community. For Rtn. S. Sundarraj, civil engineering, construction entrepreneurship and Rotary service have become important parts of that journey.

Based in Thirukalukundram, Sundarraj is associated with Vishaal Constructions and the Rotary Club of Eagle Town Thirukkazhukundram. With more than two decades of association with Rotary and experience in various responsibilities, he is preparing to take on a significant leadership role as District Governor of Rotary International District 3231 for 2028–29.

As he celebrates his birthday on October 2, the occasion offers an opportunity to look back at his professional journey, his longstanding association with Rotary and the road ahead.

Building His Professional Journey

A civil engineer by professional classification, Sundarraj has built his professional career around the construction sector. Public business records identify him as the proprietor of Vishaal Constructions, a Thirukalukundram-based business involved in works contracts and retail activities.

Construction requires planning, coordination, resource management and the ability to work closely with people to bring projects to completion. These experiences can also contribute to leadership in community organisations, where teamwork, communication and effective coordination are equally important.

Through his professional career and voluntary service, Sundarraj represents the connection between entrepreneurship and community participation.

More Than Two Decades of Rotary Service

Sundarraj`s association with Rotary dates back to 2005. Over the years, his involvement with the Rotary Club of Eagle Town Thirukkazhukundram has extended beyond regular club participation to include responsibilities at the district level.

Long-term involvement in a service organisation provides opportunities to work with people from different professions and backgrounds, participate in community initiatives and contribute to the functioning of Rotary at various levels.

His journey over more than two decades has now led to an important milestone in his Rotary career.

A New Chapter in District Leadership

Sundarraj has been selected to serve as District Governor of Rotary International District 3231 for 2028–29.

The position carries responsibility for working with Rotary clubs across the district, supporting club leadership and encouraging collaborationon in service activities.

For Sundarraj, this forthcoming role represents another stage in a Rotary journey that began in 2005 and has continued alongside his professional responsibilities in the construction sector.

Connecting Professional Experience with Service

Rotary brings together people from different professions and backgrounds with a shared interest in community service. Its activities cover a wide range of areas, including health, education, clean water and sanitation, environmental initiatives and peace-building efforts.

One of the organisation`s strengths is its ability to bring together people with different professional experiences and turn those skills into collective community initiatives.

For entrepreneurs and professionals, this provides an opportunity to apply their experience beyond the workplace. Planning, communication, financial management, teamwork and problem-solving can all contribute to the successful implementation of service projects.

Sundarraj`s journey reflects this connection between professional life and voluntary leadership combining his experience as a civil engineer and entrepreneur with his longstanding participation in Rotary.

Rotary as a Family Association

Rotary is also part of Sundarraj`s family involvement in community service. His wife, Rtn. Poonkothai Sundarraj, is associated with the Rotary Club of Eagle Town Thirukkazhukundram.

Their shared association with the organisation adds another dimension to the family`s connection with Rotary and its service activities.

Looking Ahead

Celebrating his birthday on October 2, a day that also marks Gandhi Jayanti, provides an appropriate occasion to reflect on the importance of service and community participation alongside professional responsibilities.

From civil engineering and construction entrepreneurship to more than two decades of Rotary involvement, Sundarraj`s journey has brought together business, leadership and community service.

His forthcoming term as District Governor of Rotary International District 3231 for 2028–29 marks the beginning of another significant chapter.

LiveChennai wishes Rtn. S. Sundarraj a very happy birthday, good health, happiness and continued success in both his professional and service journeys. We wish him a meaningful and productive tenure ahead, with many opportunities to bring people together and contribute to the community.
